Victor Cruz: Out of the Blue with Peter Schrager - Book Review

Tuesday, June 10, 2014
This autobiography is about the life of New York Giants football player Victor Cruz, who had an amazing rookie year with the New York Giants in 2011. This inspiring book tells about Victor's life, growing up in a tough neighborhood in New Jersey, coping with the death of a close friend when he was a teenager, and becoming part of the New York Giants football team after excelling in try outs. Unlike many star football players, Victor Cruz was an undrafted free agent signed by the New York Giants in the 2010 off season after earning a spot during try outs.
This is a very inspirational book, not just for athletes but for everyone looking to achieve a dream. I liked all the detail about the challenges he faced from growing up without a father to struggling to pass his SATs. As an avid tennis player, I appreciated how much he loved the sport of football, and even basketball. It's an uplifting book that I didn't want to stop reading. I think anyone who likes a sport and is looking to be inspired would enjoy this book. I also liked that it had pictures of him in it. It made the story easier to connect to while reading. I do, however, wish they spent more time talking about his first year with the Giants, but maybe that will be in his next book.
